Camp Geiger July 7th 8:15am

Another dry, but humid day at Camp Geiger. We usually start our day getting up at6am to clean up the camp for inspection. There are other boys who get up even earlier. A certain set of boys getting the fishing merit badge wake up at 4:30 in the morning to go down to Lake Richardson to try and catch fish. Up to this point, they haven't been successful, but they'll keep trying! But they were successful at something much more important.


A Scout is...Friendly


This is a group of boys that go fishing every morinng for their merit badge. There is a boy at the end who is not in our troop. Before Mr. Kunamneni took this picture was taking, the boys from our troop were saying,"Wait! Eric needs to be in this picture!" Obviously Eric became part of this close knit group. That's one of the best things about scouting and it's not the only example we've seen at camp. In scouts, and here at Geiger, you can meet friends that you can have for a lifetime. It's kids who all share common experiences, and yet can see how people live in other parts of the country, and in some cases, the world.

...and now for something completely different

Cleanest tent of the day was a tie. And the winners are (drumroll)

Robbie Berry and Tristain Goodnight! and...

Steven Reyna and Hayden Brewer! They'll all enjoy a free slushie today! (Robby and Tristain needed to hurry so they couldn't take a picture.)

Breakfast - Pancakes and bacon, yogurt, cold cereal and orange juice.

Weather - Cloudy, humid and 76 degrees.

I listen to Dr. Charles Stanley on the way to work most days. I have heard in his sermons this phrase – look your best, do your best, be your best. His messages relate this phrase to the Christian life. I was thinking how that same message is what we are striving toward in out scouting troop. Look Your Best – We expect each scout to be in full scout uniform, to wear their uniform proudly and to take proper care of how they present themselves. The uniform has many aspects. The word uniform is defined as distinctive clothing worn by members of a particular group; not varying; having the same form or manner. We are all part of one team. The symbolism in various parts of the uniform shows the desires of scouting – learning about truth, acquiring knowledge, being lead in the right path to name just a few. What do our dancers wear?

The boys on our Dance Team are members of The Order of the Arrow and/or The Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Each of these are honor camping societies of the Boy Scouts of America and membership represents a Scout’s accomplishments and dedication to the ideals of Scouting. Not something beyond or outside of Scouting, these organizations support and enhance Scouting and both make extensive use of traditions drawn from Native American cultures. One aspect of those cultures with which many modern Americans are familiar is the ceremonial dance. Our Dance Team strives to keep the spirit of traditional native dances alive among Americans of diverse origins and experiences. Pow Wow 2022

  Pow Wow  2022 I would say the the dog days of summer have arrived but it feels that we’ve been mired in them for months.     But an August weekend before school starts can only mean one thing.    Pow Wow.     Mic-o say’s    quintessential event, also the first event of the year following summer camp.     The new braves first opportunity to be with their peers from all 6 sessions of summer camp.    A crash course, if you will, regarding all things Mic-o-say.    Regalia, dances, traditions, and most importantly FUN.    This year partipants included Luke Goss, Winston Smith, Caleb Pratt, Nicholas Shook, Daniel Woehler, James Grantonic, Landon Pratt, Max Brooks, Jonathan Stephens, Marshall Hayden and The Rishi Bandlamudi.      Lance Brooks, Drew Gonzalez and myself were in the van with the tribesman.    Richard Covington, Mark DiCaccio, and Thomas Sorensen drove with the trailer hooked up to Mr Covington’s truck.   Friday morning we set out (eventually  🤣 ) in a huge 15 passenger van…th
